through this project, I hope that you gain a deeper understanding of the 'invisible' strings that influence your experience of social media and re-frame your perspective on new media
why do we need to rethink our social media consumption?
social media, as we know it, thrives off the promise of user autonomy and agency. however, that's not the case. our feeds and timelines are not (just) the result of what we interact with but are intentionally curated with larger, ulterior interests that often go under the radar.
platforms' capitalistic interests dictate the way in which social media platforms are built which, in turn, influences how we experience the world through these mediums.
we need to pay more attention to the impact of human agency within the realm of social media so that we can begin holding key figures in the tech and media industry accountable for their actions.
